School Report Card

Public school students in Queen Creek are served by the Queen Creek Unified School District. Within the district are five elementary schools, one junior high, one middle school and one high school. The district serves more than 5,000 students annually and consistently receives high marks from the state, with all but one campus rated "A". In addition to public schools, Queen Creek is also home to several highly rated charter and private schools, including Benjamin Franklin Charter School and Patriot Academy.


Shopping

Located in West Mesa just a short drive from South Mesa -- near Loop 202 and Dobson Road -- Mesa's largest retail offering is Mesa Riverview which sports more than 1.3 million square-feet of retail space featuring a mix of well-known stores -- including Bass Pro Shops, OfficeMax, Petco, WalMart, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Home Depot -- plus restaurants, independent retailers and specialty shops. Not far away, Village Square at Dana Park -- featuring palm tree-lined driveways, wide pedestrian walkways and outdoor dining patios -- is home to high-end retailers and unique boutiques. Meanwhile, East Mesa's Superstition Springs Center -- located near U.S. Highway 60 and Power Road -- is where you'll find more than 150 stores and eateries including such well-known names as JC Penney, Dillards, Macy's, Sears and many more. 


Transportation

Close to a trio of freeways, residents of the City of Mesa, including South Mesa, enjoy plenty of easy car-commuting options. From an aviation perspective, Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport is just a freeway's drive away, while South Mesa's Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport -- a busy regional hub -- and East Mesa's Falcon Field -- known as one of the busiest general-aviation airports in the country -- both offer additional aviation options to residents of South Mesa. Additional transit services across Mesa include LINK bus rapid transit (BRT), local and express bus service, a neighborhood circulator and paratransit. 


Demographics

In 2012, the estimated median household income in the City of Mesa was slightly more than $47,000, which is just about equal to the Arizona median. Mesa's estimated median house or condo value in 2012 was $129,400; in Arizona, it was $151,500. While the Arizona median age is 36, the City of Mesa has a median resident age of 35.3. In 2013, the overall population of Mesa was nearly 460,000, which reflects a 15.4 percent increase in population since the year 2000. 


Employment

More than 100 companies are adjacent to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (a bustling commercial-aviation airport in South Mesa) and Falcon Field (a busy general-aviation airport in East Mesa), employing thousands of individuals in manufacturing, software and aerospace/aviation high-tech clusters.

Examples of some of the City of Mesa's major employers are Boeing (where the top-rated Apache attack helicopter is manufactured) and Banner Health, which has a number of major hospitals and medical centers in and around Mesa. Another major employer in the city is Empire Southwest, LLC, a third-generation family-owned Caterpillar(r) dealership. A sampling of additional employers with operations in various parts of Mesa include Bridgestone, Telonics, Ulthera, FUJIFILM, Mitel, International Rectifier, Guided Therapy Systems, PCT International, LaunchPoint: Mesa's Technology Accelerator, and the Arizona Center for Algae Technology and Innovation (AzCATI).



Recreation

Located in Downtown Mesa and drawing approximately 400,000 patrons a year, the Mesa Arts Center (MAC) is Arizona's largest arts center with four theaters, five art galleries and 14 art studios. The MAC features a comprehensive calendar of professional performing arts shows and concerts as well as visual arts and arts education programming. The City of Mesa is also home to a plethora of parks and museums including the Arizona Museum of Natural History, the i.d.e.a. Museum (formerly the Arizona Museum for Youth), Mesa Historical Museum and Commemorative Air Force Aircraft Museum. In addition, the City of Mesa is home to Major League Baseball Spring Training parks for the Oakland Athletics and the Chicago Cubs, one of the biggest draws in the Cactus League


Healthcare

As a result of huge investments made by medical providers, hospitals and medical centers in recent years, the entire Southeast Valley is a hub of world-class healthcare. Indeed, Banner Desert Medical CenterBanner Baywood Medical Center and Banner Heart Hospital are all in Mesa. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and Banner Gateway Medical Center are both in neighboring Gilbert, while Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers and Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center are both in next-door Chandler.
