Situated in the northern part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Cave Creek's motto, "Where the Wild West Lives," reflects the city's heritage as a mining and ranching town. Featuring historic Spur Cross Ranch, Cave Creek is known for its desert landscape and Old West ambience. Born on the backs of a gold rush in the 1860s, Cave Creek is now one of the backbones of North Phoenix. Closely related to the city of Carefree, Cave Creek offers an amazing getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Lifestyle & Amenities

Cave Creek offers a wide variety of opportunities for young families as well as older residents, all of whom delight in the myriad of high-acreage and horse-friendly properties available. The Cave Creek Museum preserves and presents an array of artifacts and exhibits relating to the history of the Desert Foothills area, with the 20,000-square-foot Desert Foothills Library acting as a central cornerstone of the community. School Report Card

Cave Creek is served by the Cave Creek Unified School District. The schools in the district include four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district is also home to the Desert Sun Academy (grades K-6), a "Core Knowledge" school that has been rated an "Excelling" school for seven consecutive years. All seven schools in the district hold a rating of "8" or higher on


If you’re into western clothing and Native American art or just fun-and-funky jewelry and home accessories, Cave Creek should be high on your list of places to drop some dinero. That’s because Cave Creek Road, which runs through the center of town, is home to a burgeoning number of shops and restaurants. Antiques, furniture, art, clothing, jewelry and more are all represented in a wide variety of stores. One-of-a-kind western items are the norm in Cave Creek with a plethora of items available in pretty much every price range.


Although you can easily drive the streets of Cave Creek, a good number of residents make their way around town on horseback, since the town's dirt trails make it the perfect place to get off the asphalt. Many locations are also within walking or biking distance. There aren't any busses in Cave Creek, so plan accordingly if you're unsure about transportation.


Since 2000, Cave Creek's population has increased more than 36 percent. For those who want to escape the big-city lifestyle, Cave Creek is ideal -- in fact, 54 percent of Cave Creek residents live in rural areas of the town. The population of the town skews slightly older, with the median resident age being listed as 51.2 years, compared to the Arizona average of 33.8 years. Cave Creek has an average median household income of $71,361, as opposed to Arizona's average of $47,224.


Although Cave Creek is an excellent town for retirees, there are still a number of employment opportunities. Indeed, some residents of the city, retired or not, enjoy working part-time at the many shops and restaurants that line the town. In addition, Cave Creek is a great place to live for those who are self-employed.


Picture-perfect views of the surrounding Sonoran desert, combined with our overwhelming number of sunshine-filled days per year, make Cave Creek an excellent location for outdoor activities. The town boasts numerous hiking trails for various skill levels, horseback riding, off-road vehicle tours and more to help you see the lush desert landscape in whatever way is most comfortable for you. Residents of Cave Creek can receive passes for the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area for only $1 per year, with visitors paying a $3 entry fee.


Cave Creek enjoys easy access to the healthcare amenities of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Just 20 minutes south in Scottsdale, HonorHealth (formerly Scottsdale Healthcare) operates numerous facilities that provide some of the best care in the Valley. Scottsdale is also home to a campus of the world-famous Mayo Clinic, while 20 minutes west of Cave Creek is the John C. Lincoln Sonoran Health and Emergency Center (now also part of HonorHealth) which offers emergency care 24 hours a day.
